Mustafa Suleyman, DeepMind and Inflection Co-founder, joins Microsoft to lead Copilot - The Official Microsoft Blog

Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, has announced a significant organizational update, with the formation of a new division called Microsoft AI. This new organization will be led by Mustafa Suleyman, as EVP and CEO, and Karén Simonyan, as Chief Scientist, both of whom are joining Microsoft. The focus of Microsoft AI will be on advancing Copilot and other consumer AI products and research. Several members from Inflection, a company co-founded by Suleyman and Simonyan, will also join Microsoft AI.

The organizational changes are part of Microsoft's strategy to innovate and build world-class AI products. The company will continue to partner with OpenAI and build AI infrastructure to support OpenAI’s foundation model roadmap. As part of the transition, teams working on Copilot, Bing, and Edge, as well as the GenAI team, will now report to Suleyman. Kevin Scott will continue as CTO and EVP of AI, overseeing all AI strategy, while Rajesh Jha will continue as EVP of Experiences & Devices, focusing on building out Copilot for Microsoft 365.
