Neural networks are reportedly helping criminals create cheap virtual fake IDs online

A website, OnlyFake, claimed to use AI to create fake IDs, potentially tricking online verification methods. The site, now down, reportedly used neural networks to generate realistic images of false documents. In an experiment by 404 Media, a fake Californian ID was created and managed to bypass online verification methods for cryptocurrency platform, OKX. In other news, three computer science students won $700,000 in the Vesuvius Challenge 2023 for developing AI software to read ancient scrolls from the Herculaneum papyri collection, preserved from a volcanic eruption.
