Nvidia-powered AI nurses are scrubbing in

Mar 22, 2024 - morningbrew.com
Nvidia, the king chipmaker, has partnered with healthcare startup Hippocratic AI to create $9/hour AI "nurses" that could replace humans in areas of patient care that can be done virtually. More than 40 healthcare providers are currently testing the technology. The AI bots are designed to handle non-diagnostic, patient-facing work that Hippocratic considers "low risk," such as post-op check-ins, nutritional guidance, or pharmacy calls. The aim is to offset the nursing shortages in the US while saving healthcare providers money on human salaries.

In a demo video, a "GenAI Healthcare Agent" named Rachel conducts a post-appendectomy follow-up with a patient, asking and answering case-specific questions in real time. The rise of industry-specific AI projects like Hippocratic, which was recently valued at $500 million after a funding round that included Andreessen Horowitz, is due to Big Tech outspending venture capital groups on all the hot AI startups.
