An old video of OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, presenting his friend-locating service, Loopt, at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in 2008 has resurfaced on social media. Loopt, one of the first companies to receive funding from Y Combinator, was sold to Green Dot for $43 million in 2012 after failing to attract users. Altman began working at Y Combinator in 2011 and became its president in 2014.

Ahead of WWDC 2024, there are rumors that Apple might bring Altman back on stage to announce a new partnership with OpenAI. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to introduce a chatbot on iOS 18 in collaboration with OpenAI. However, not all features of iOS 18 will be available on all iPhone models, with some remaining exclusive to iPhone 15 Pro models.
