OpenAI brings ChatGPT's Advanced Voice Mode to the web | TechCrunch

Nov 19, 2024 - techcrunch.com
OpenAI is extending its Advanced Voice Mode feature for ChatGPT to the web, enabling users to converse with the AI chatbot directly from their browser. The feature, which makes ChatGPT more conversational, is being rolled out to paying customers, including Plus, Enterprise, Teams, or Edu subscribers. The web launch comes after the introduction of Advanced Voice Mode in ChatGPT’s iOS and Android apps in September. The chatbot can understand and respond to non-verbal cues and can also respond with emotion.

To initiate a voice conversation on the web, users need to select the Voice icon on the bottom-right of ChatGPT’s prompt window and give their browser permission to access their computer’s microphone. Users can choose from nine output voices for ChatGPT, each with its own tone and character. OpenAI plans to roll out the feature to free users in the coming weeks. Plus and Team subscribers have a daily limit for using Advanced Voice Mode, and free users will have access to a monthly preview to try the feature.
