Aug 31, 2023 - siliconangle.com
AI21 Labs, a generative artificial intelligence startup, has raised $155 million in a Series C funding round. The round saw participation from investors such as Walden Catalyst, Pitango, SCB10X, b2venture, Samsung Next, Google LLC, Nvidia Corp., and professor Amnon Shashua. This comes shortly after a $64 million Series B round in July, bringing the company's total funding to $283 million and its valuation to $14 billion. The funds will be used to accelerate research and development programs, pursue more partnerships, and expand its workforce.

The company, which focuses on natural language processing, has developed several NLP-based applications, including the world’s most customizable and sophisticated large language model, Jurassic-2. This model powers AI21 Studio, Wordtune, and Wordtune Read, and is used by companies to build advanced, chat-based AI apps. AI21 Labs has also created chatbots, including the Ask Ruth Bader Ginsburg AI bot. The company aims to make AI a "thought partner" to humans and change the way people read and write.
