OpenAI wants to pair online courses with chatbots | TechCrunch

Dec 05, 2024 - techcrunch.com
OpenAI is considering ways to allow e-learning instructors to create custom "GPTs" that tie into online curriculums, according to Siya Raj Purohit, a member of OpenAI’s go-to-market team for education. She noted that some professors are already using OpenAI's existing tools to create custom GPTs, which are then made available to their students. OpenAI is targeting the education market as a key growth area and has launched ChatGPT Edu, a version of ChatGPT built for universities.

However, the adoption of AI in education is off to a slow start due to skepticism from educators. A survey by the Pew Research Center found that a quarter of public K-12 teachers believe using AI tools in education does more harm than good. Similarly, a poll by the Rand Corporation and the Center on Reinventing Public Education found that only 18% of K-12 educators are applying AI in their classrooms.
