OpenAI’s custom GPT Store is now open to all for free

May 13, 2024 - theverge.com
OpenAI is making several previously subscription-only features of ChatGPT available to free users, including the ability to create custom chatbots and access its GPT Store. The GPT Store, which was opened to paid subscribers four months ago, allows users to create and share their own chatbots. OpenAI also plans to offer a revenue-sharing program for GPT builders. However, the audience for these bots has been limited due to the feature's restriction to paying ChatGPT users.

In addition to the GPT Store, OpenAI's CTO, Mira Murati, announced GPT-4o, a multimodal "omnimodel" with chatbot, vision-based analysis, and live chat capabilities. The company also announced a desktop app for Macs and plans to update the web UI for ChatGPT. Free users will now also have the ability to upload files and photos for summary and analysis, search the web with ChatGPT, and use GPT-4 with memory of previous chats, which were previously subscription-locked.
