Oppo Debuts AI Motion Features That Could Save Your Blurry Pet Photos

Feb 26, 2024 - cnet.com
Chinese phone manufacturer Oppo is developing a set of motion AI features to help deblur fast-moving images, such as those of pets. The company is collaborating with AlpsenTek to create AI motion algorithms that can enhance the clarity of such images. The technology can also enhance slow-motion videos by using video interpolation to recover fast-moving objects shot on video, allowing for the capture of videos at 960 frames per second at a theoretical 2K or 4K resolution.

This development comes as other phone companies are also investing in AI to improve or generate images. For instance, Google's Pixel 8 uses a Best Take feature to suggest changing facial expressions for a perfect group shot, while Samsung's Galaxy AI is introducing its own AI enhancements to photo and video for the Galaxy S24 and S23 phones, including an Instant Slow-Mo feature for video previews in slow motion.
