Panasonic cuts the wires from its SoundSlayer neck speaker for gamers

Sep 20, 2023 - theverge.com
Panasonic is set to release a new wireless neck speaker, the GNW10 SoundSlayer, priced at $299 and available from late October. The device features AI voice isolation for phone calls and in-game voice chat, a small transmitter for audio transmission with less than 20ms of latency, and a 60% larger housing for improved bass. It also includes four speakers, six sound modes, and is designed to avoid causing discomfort or fatigue to the wearer.

The new SoundSlayer is an updated version of a wired model released two years ago. The main difference is the use of a proprietary 2.4GHz wireless protocol for audio transmission, which Panasonic claims results in less latency than Bluetooth audio. The device also uses AI to enhance its noise cancellation capabilities, although its effectiveness will only be known once it is released to the public.

  • The speaker also employs what Panasonic calls "AI voice control", a beamforming noise-cancellation feature that uses AI to better cut out background noise and echo during calls.
  • The new model has a 60 percent larger housing than its predecessor, which Panasonic says will improve bass, and has been designed to avoid causing fatigue or discomfort when worn around the neck.
