Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and Peter Jackson used AI for ‘separating’ a John Lennon vocal to make the very last Beatles song ever

Oct 26, 2023 - fortune.com
A new Beatles song, "Now And Then," will be released on November 2, thanks to the use of artificial intelligence. The track, which comes from unreleased demos by the late John Lennon, was completed last year by surviving members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, with AI used to separate Lennon's vocals from a piano track from the 1970s. The song also features a guitar recording by George Harrison from nearly 30 years ago, and backing vocals from original Beatles songs.

The release of "Now And Then" is accompanied by a 12-minute film about the recording process, which will be made public the day before the song's release. Later in November, expanded versions of the Beatles' compilations "1962-1966" and "1967-1970" will be released, with "Now And Then" added to the latter collection. According to Starr, this is the last track that will feature all four Beatles.
