Plano-Based Frito-Lay Launches 'Crunch-Cancelling' AI Tech for Chip-Chomping PC Gamers

Nov 02, 2023 - dallasinnovates.com
Doritos, the corn tortilla chip brand from Frito-Lay, has developed a new artificial intelligence software called Doritos Silent that cancels the sound of chip crunching. The software was developed in response to online surveys that showed gamers found the sound of chip crunching distracting. The software was developed in partnership with Brooklyn-based Smooth Technology and uses AI to recognize and isolate the sound of a Doritos chip being crunched, allowing the gamer to still hear the crunch, but not transmit the sound to other players.

The software is part of Doritos' efforts to enhance the gaming experience and cater to its large gamer customer base. The company has also launched a social media and out-of-home campaign in the U.S., U.K., Spain, Poland, Brazil, and Portugal, teasing the idea of "making Doritos silent". The PC software can be downloaded and is not available for Mac users.
