Poe introduces a price-per-message revenue model for AI bot creators | TechCrunch

Apr 09, 2024 - techcrunch.com
Quora-owned AI chatbot platform, Poe, has introduced a new revenue model that allows bot creators to set a per-message price for their bots, enabling them to earn money each time a user messages them. This follows an earlier revenue-sharing program launched in October 2023, which gave bot creators a share of earnings when users subscribed to Poe’s premium product. The platform, launched by Quora in February 2023, hosts a variety of AI chatbots from various makers, including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, and aims to provide a space for consumers to explore AI technologies.

The new revenue model could encourage the development of new types of bots in areas such as tutoring, knowledge, assistants, analysis, storytelling, and image generation. Currently, the offering is only available to U.S. bot creators, but plans to expand globally are in the pipeline. Alongside the per-message revenue model, Poe has also launched an enhanced analytics dashboard that provides daily updates on average earnings for creators’ bots across paywalls, subscriptions, and messages, helping creators understand how their pricing affects bot usage and revenue.
