postgres.new: In-browser Postgres with an AI interface

Aug 13, 2024 - news.bensbites.com
Supabase has introduced postgres.new, an in-browser Postgres sandbox with AI assistance. The platform allows users to create an unlimited number of Postgres databases that run directly in the browser and are paired with a large language model (LLM). The LLM can perform tasks such as drag-and-drop CSV import, report generation, chart creation, and database diagram building. The platform also allows for AI-driven development, Postgres sandboxing, and the creation of extremely cheap databases.

The platform uses PGlite, a WASM version of Postgres that runs directly in the browser, developed by ElectricSQL. It also features an AI assistant with full autonomy over the database, CSV imports and exports, chart creation, ER diagrams and migrations, semantic search and RAG, and deployments. The platform is expected to have read-only deployments by the end of the week, and future features include support for more file types, database sharing, PGLite OPFS support, and database exporting.
