Rabbit R1 AI Assistant: Price, Specs, Release Date

Jan 09, 2024 - wired.com
Rabbit Inc., an AI startup, is launching a pocket-friendly device called the R1 at CES 2024. The device, designed in collaboration with Swedish firm Teenage Engineering, is intended to carry out tasks via voice commands, using automated scripts known as "rabbits". The R1, which costs $199, has a 2.88-inch touchscreen, a 360-degree rotating camera, a push-to-talk button, and a 4G LTE SIM card slot for constant connectivity. It can perform tasks such as calling an Uber, making restaurant reservations, and booking airline tickets, among others.

The R1 does not have any onboard apps or connect to any apps' APIs, but instead uses Rabbit OS to access select apps via a web portal. The device does not store user credentials of third-party services and only records audio when the push-to-talk button is activated. The backend uses large language models to understand user intent and large action models to carry out requests. An experimental "teach mode" will allow users to train their own "rabbits" to perform specific tasks. The device is not intended to replace smartphones, but to take over menial tasks and become the primary interface with the digital world.
