Report: Apple signs deal with OpenAI for iOS, still wants Google as an 'option'

May 27, 2024 - androidauthority.com
Apple has reportedly signed a deal with OpenAI to integrate chatbot functionality into its upcoming iOS 18, according to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. The deal is expected to be a component of Apple's WWDC developer event in June. Apple is also said to be in talks with Google to offer its Gemini AI as an option, but this is not expected to be announced in the near future.

In addition to this, Apple is also reportedly working on its own Ajax AI model for on-device text analysis, smart replies, and summaries. The OpenAI deal is expected to give Apple some leeway as it works on its own chatbot, similar to its previous strategy with Google Maps before launching Apple Maps. Gurman also reported that iOS 18 could bring custom emoji functionality and other AI features.
