Reshape wants to help ‘decode nature’ by automating the ‘visual’ part of lab experiments | TechCrunch

Apr 09, 2024 - techcrunch.com
Danish startup Reshape has raised $20 million in a Series A funding round to expand its technology that automates lab experiments requiring visual inspections in the US. The company, founded in 2018, has developed a robotic imaging system with software and AI models to track visual changes in lab experiments, allowing them to run 24/7 without direct supervision. The system includes high-resolution cameras and lighting to capture visual data points and time-lapses, and record how different components in an experiment react to the conditions they are subjected to.

Reshape's technology is used by companies to transition from chemical to bio-pesticides, test for seed germination rates, and perform ingredient characterization, among other uses. The platform makes results available to view in a cloud-based interface and supports data exports in formats such as LIMS or CSV. The company sells the full platform as a subscription, which includes the hardware, machine learning, and underlying software. With the new funding, Reshape plans to scale its business in the US, where it says around two-thirds of its revenue already comes from.
