Cruise, the GM brand, has suspended all autonomous car activities in the US following the loss of its self-driving license in California. The California Department of Motor Vehicles deemed the autonomous Chevy Bolt EVs unsafe for public operation and accused Cruise of misrepresenting the safety of the technology. Cruise currently operates Chevrolet Bolt cars equipped with additional sensors.

On the other hand, Google subsidiary Waymo is expanding its public robotaxi service in partnership with Uber, launching driverless rides in Phoenix. Waymo focuses on artificial intelligence and specific hardware for autonomous driving, leaving vehicle development to others. It has strategic partnerships with Jaguar and Volvo Cars, and its latest collaboration is with Geely company, Zeekr, to develop a fully autonomous electric minivan for US ride-hailing services.
