Samsung's Galaxy S24 skips Google Gemini for Baidu's AI 'Ernie' in China

Jan 26, 2024 - feed.feedburster.com
Samsung has reportedly replaced Google's Gemini with "Ernie" from Chinese company Baidu as the backbone of Galaxy AI for the Galaxy S24. The software, which is said to be Baidu's answer to OpenAI's ChatGPT, will provide AI translations, summaries, and more for the S24 series. This decision could be a result of Samsung's declining popularity among smartphone manufacturers in China.

In other regions, Google's AI model Gemini will continue to be the backbone of Samsung's Galaxy AI. Samsung is also planning to introduce Galaxy AI features to older phones, except the S22, and will start charging users for it. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, one of Samsung's first "AI phones", boasts features such as real-time call translations and on-device capabilities.
