Jun 17, 2024 - news.crunchbase.com
In May, six companies joined The Crunchbase Unicorn Board, with the largest new entrant being xAI, which raised $6 billion and was valued at $24 billion. The majority of the new unicorns are U.S.-based AI and Web3 companies. So far this year, around 50 new unicorns have joined the board, adding close to $100 billion in value. Several companies already at unicorn valuations raised billion-dollar funding rounds at higher values, including CoreWeave, Scale AI, Wiz, and Wayve.

However, most unicorn exits in May were below their last private values. Notable exits include Zeekr, an electric vehicle company that went public on the NYSE at a $5.2 billion value, and Digit Insurance, which listed at a $3 billion value on the BSE and NSE exchanges in India. BioCatch, a biometric intelligence company, was acquired by Permira for $1.3 billion, marking the only exit above its last private value.
