Aug 24, 2023 - reuters.com
South Korean internet giant Naver has announced its own generative artificial intelligence (AI) tool, HyperCLOVA X. The AI product will offer AI-driven searches for users and customised services for enterprise clients. The suite of tools includes a chatbot application, CLOVA X, designed to enhance web search, online shopping, and navigation services, and a generative AI function, Cue:, that can be integrated into its search engine. Beta services for CLOVA X will begin from Thursday, and for Cue: in September.

Naver is also developing new chip solutions with Samsung Electronics to support its AI technology development. The company plans to open a new data centre for the HyperCLOVA X services in November. Naver is targeting niche markets not yet addressed by U.S. and Chinese tech giants, with plans to develop localised AI applications for non-English speaking countries and regions, and countries with political sensitivities in the Middle East.
