Starfield’s missing Nvidia DLSS support has been added by a free mod

Sep 10, 2023 - arstechnica.com
Modders have added support for Nvidia's Deep Learning Super-Sampling (DLSS) technology to the game Starfield, but full DLSS3 support is hidden behind a Patreon paywall. The "Starfield Upscaler" mod, currently the most popular Starfield mod on NexusMods, supports the DLSS2 standard, but to access the frame-generation capabilities of DLSS3, players must subscribe to modder PureDark's Patreon page. The mod improves frame rates by inserting AI-generated frames between those generated by the game itself.

However, the idea of paying for game mods has been met with backlash, with some gamers releasing a crack for the DRM embedded in the mod. AMD Gaming CEO Frank Azor has stated that Bethesda has AMD's full support if they wish to add DLSS support to Starfield, but there has been no public word from Bethesda on this matter yet.
