Stellantis CEO says there's still life in Waymo deal for self-driving delivery vans | TechCrunch

Feb 24, 2024 - techcrunch.com
Stellantis and Waymo are deepening their partnership to focus on commercial self-driving Ram delivery vans, according to Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares. The discussions have centered around the challenge of how packages get from the vehicle to the customer. Tavares hinted at a potential announcement of more details by summer, while a Waymo spokesperson confirmed the company's interest in strengthening its relationship with Stellantis.

Waymo, owned by Google's parent company Alphabet, currently doesn't operate a commercial delivery service with its self-driving vehicles. The company had a previous deal with Uber to allow users to hail a driverless vehicle via the app in Phoenix, which included a future plan for delivery via Uber Eats. However, this has not yet launched. Stellantis and Waymo have been partners since 2016, with a deal to supply Waymo with custom Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans for autonomous driving, although the order was not fully fulfilled.
