TabbyML raises $3.2M for its open-source AI coding assistant - SiliconANGLE

Oct 18, 2023 - siliconangle.com
TabbyML, an AI startup, has raised $3.2 million in seed funding from Yunqi Partners and ZooCap for its open-source AI coding assistant, Tabby. The tool allows developers to generate code using natural language prompts and can be integrated with the code editor a software team uses daily. The AI models can generate multiple lines of code at once, including entire functions. Tabby is positioned as an alternative to Microsoft's GitHub Copilot service, but unlike GitHub Copilot, it is open-source and free to use.

The company claims that Tabby can be customized without any code modifications, and its models, which have between one and three billion parameters, can run on a desktop computer with a consumer-grade graphics card. The tool is distributed as a downloadable Docker container and does not require an internet connection to function. Since its release in late August, Tabby has received over 11,000 stars on GitHub, indicating significant developer adoption.
