Telly’s free ad-supported TV will use ChatGPT for its voice assistant

Jan 09, 2024 - theverge.com
Telly, a company that offers free 55-inch 4K TVs with a second screen for persistent ads, is developing a voice assistant based on OpenAI's ChatGPT. The assistant will interact with users on the second screen, learning and recognizing the owner's preferences over time to offer personalized recommendations. The company also plans to allow other household users to personalize the chatbot, for example, by remembering dietary preferences when suggesting restaurants. Telly has not yet announced when this feature will be available.

Telly also revealed that the TV's integrated camera for Zoom calls has been popular among early users, and announced a new "Zoom Watch Party" feature that allows users to watch content or play video games on the main screen while video chatting on the second screen. Additionally, Telly is introducing a purchasing feature called T-Commerce, where users can interact with an ad on the second screen and be directed to the retailer's web browser, with the option to save payment information for easy checkouts.
