Nov 14, 2024 - techcrunch.com
London-based startup Tessl is developing an "AI native" platform to help developers create and maintain software, with a focus on managing the complexities that arise when humans and AI write code together. The company, which is yet to launch its product, has raised $125 million in a seed round and Series A funding, led by Index Ventures and featuring participation from Accel, GV, and boldstart. The startup's post-money valuation is reportedly over $500 million. Tessl's CEO and founder is Guy Podjarny, former CTO of Akamai and founder of cybersecurity firm Snyk.

Tessl's platform will allow developers and their teams to provide specifications in natural language or code, which Tessl will then use to write new code and maintain it according to the given specifications. The startup plans to support Java, Javascript, and Python initially, with more languages to be added over time. Tessl is also in talks with other companies developing AI coding assistants, with the aim of maintaining the code produced by these platforms.
