Universe 2023: Copilot transforms GitHub into the AI-powered developer platform

GitHub has announced a series of updates to its Copilot AI software development tool, including the general availability of Copilot Chat in December 2023, the introduction of Copilot Enterprise in February 2024, and the launch of the Copilot Partner Program. Copilot Chat, which will be integrated into github.com and the GitHub mobile app, uses natural language to assist developers in writing and understanding code. Copilot Enterprise, priced at $39 per user per month, offers personalized AI assistance throughout the software development lifecycle, while the Partner Program will integrate Copilot with third-party developer tools and services.

The company also unveiled new AI-powered security features for GitHub Advanced Security, including code scanning autofix and secret scanning for generic secrets. In addition, GitHub previewed Copilot Workspace, an AI-powered tool that helps developers plan and implement changes to their codebase. The tool, which is expected to be released in 2024, uses AI to propose a plan for implementing changes when an issue is opened, and can build, run, and test the code to validate the changes.
