Waymo Begins Testing the Waters For a Robotaxi Service In Los Angeles - Slashdot

Sep 21, 2023 - tech.slashdot.org
Waymo, an Alphabet-owned company, is offering Los Angeles residents the chance to ride in fully autonomous vehicles as part of a "tour across Los Angeles". The initiative is part of Waymo's preparations for launching a commercial robotaxi service. The company will make six multi-week "tour stops" in different LA neighborhoods, where people can hail a self-driving car with no one in the front seat. Interested residents can get early access tickets at pop-up events or sign up for a waitlist.

The tour will cover Santa Monica and Venice Beach from October 11th to November 18th, Century City from November 20th to December 17th, West Hollywood from December 17th to January 7th, Mid City from January 8th to 23rd, Koreatown from January 24th to February 8th, and Downtown LA from February 9th to March 3rd. Waymo's robotaxis are programmed to travel from the West Side to Downtown LA, an area larger than San Francisco but smaller than its coverage in Phoenix.
