X sees a jump in consumer spending on mobile, despite decline in daily active users | TechCrunch

Jan 23, 2025 - techcrunch.com
Social network X has experienced a significant increase in in-app revenue, growing by 76.3% year-over-year, despite a decline in active users. According to Appfigures, consumer spending on X's mobile app reached $13.4 million from January 1-20, 2025, up from $7.6 million during the same period in 2024. This growth is attributed to features like the xAI Grok AI chatbot and an NFL portal, which may have boosted user engagement. However, X's revenue figures do not include advertising or web-based subscription sales, where discounts are offered.

Despite the revenue growth, X's daily active users have decreased by approximately 13% year-over-year, as reported by Sensor Tower. Competing platforms like Instagram Threads and Bluesky have seen significant increases in daily active users, with growth rates of over 170% and 495%, respectively. X's monthly active users also saw a slight decline, with more than 313 million worldwide MAUs in Q4 2024, dropping to over 300 million in January 2025. The company did not disclose its internal MAU figures when requested.
