xAI's Grok-2 might be available for free on X soon

Nov 11, 2024 - engadget.com
Elon Musk's xAI's AI chatbot, Grok, which was launched in 2023 and was exclusive to X (formerly Twitter) premium users, is reportedly becoming available to free X users in select areas. The information comes from multiple reports by researchers and users who noticed updates to Grok. However, there are conditions for free access to Grok, including the requirement for accounts to be at least seven days old with a phone number attached, and usage limitations such as a cap on the number of questions that can be asked within two hours and the number of image analyses per day.

The Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini models, which were released in late summer, are included in the free access. Grok-2 is xAI's most advanced AI chatbot, pulling real-time information from X, while the mini version is said to offer a balance between speed and answer quality. Free users can ask the Grok-2 model 10 questions and the Grok-2 mini model 20 questions within a two-hour period, and are allowed three image analyses each day.
