Yelp is launching a new AI assistant to help you connect with businesses | TechCrunch

Apr 30, 2024 - techcrunch.com
Yelp has announced a new AI-powered chatbot for its iOS app, with plans to expand to Android later this year. The chatbot uses OpenAI’s large language models and Yelp's own data to connect users with relevant businesses for their needs. The company is also launching an API for other sites to include an AI-powered bot for business discovery. Yelp is not currently considering using AI chatbot technology for restaurant discovery, but is exploring how natural language search could be used more frequently on its platform.

In addition to the chatbot, Yelp is introducing a new “Project Ideas” section and revamping its guest manager experience for over 11,000 restaurants on its network. The new design allows restaurant operators to see real-time table status and add notes for shift managers. Yelp is also rolling out waitlist updates with more accurate waiting times and text message updates for place-in-line status. The company is also redesigning the Yelp Kiosk so users can easily join the waitlist and check themselves into the restaurant.
